4 tips to gain more twitter followers

Twitter is a spectacular social media platform for businesses and individuals. Enjoy maximum engagement with your clients, prospects or community, quickly and easily. Topics and communities for everything exist on Twitter. Above all, Twitter is fast paced, allowing for quick results and an equally fun experience.  

Without a decent set of followers, however, results could be lackluster. Like other social platforms, success on Twitter relies on a follower base to share your businesses’ thoughts and content. If you or your business just started on Twitter, or have been the platform for a period, but have struggled to grow followers, below are three tips to help you grow followers quickly.

 

#1 Make Your Profile Stick

To be attractive, you need to look attractive. When it comes to Twitter, that starts with your cover image and profile image. Your cover image should not only wow people but also be somewhat descriptive about either your business or yourself. If people see a bad cover image, they will move on. When it comes to your profile picture, it doesn’t matter if you use a logo, avatar, or your personal picture. Just make sure it is engaging and professional.

 

Next comes the bio. This is where you have the opportunity in just a few words to say what you are offering and why people should follow you. Make sure you answer those two questions. Then include a call to action at the end. That could be a weblink to a link to a special offer, an affiliate link, or just someplace where you capture leads.  

 

Twitter gives you the opportunity to put a location on your profile. Don’t do it, use that valuable text box real estate to put a second call to action, in case the first in your bio failed to catch. Then right below, direct them to the call by putting a second link in the website section. Now you have two calls to action right in your profile.

#2 Tons of Commenting and Liking

Commenting and liking is the fastest way to grow on Twitter and requires less effort and cost than posting. It allows you to leverage other people’s success on the platform. Here is a bit of a magic formula:

 

  • Pick accounts in your area of interest that have 1,000 followers or more.
  • Add those followers to a Twitter list so you can see their posts in a single feed. 
  • Comment 30 times a day on the posts in your list; like at least 10. 
  • Do engaging comments: use line spaces, emojis, and bullets.

 

#3 Get the Most Out of Your Posts

Posting good content is expensive both in time and effort. Twitter posts should have a written message and also be accompanied by a quality image, gif, or video to capture people’s attention. Image is everything. Too many posts a day, however, and there is a risk of cannibalizing audience attention. Also, all that high quality imagery will eventually get expensive. Therefore, it is recommended to post 1 to 3 times, if your intent is solely to gain followers. 

 

Rationalizing your posts means you can spend more time researching to guarantee your posts get more traction. One quick way to research engaging posts is to make full use of Twitter’s advanced search function. Search for related keywords either related to your interest or for your industry, filtering for posts with a minimum of 500 likes. Use the style of those successful posts to springboard your own. 

#4 One or Two Hashtags

Lastly, when you use hashtags, do so sparingly. A good post should only have one or two well throughout hashtags at most. Overhastaging confuses other users in terms of the message you may be trying to convey. If your message needs more than one or two hashtags then it is likely not specific enough. Furthermore, it confuses those who might want to engage with your post and also read more on the topic. Too many hashtags is just not helpful.  

 

If you are just starting out, try to research the popular hashtags related to your business to help people find your posts and boost engagement. Do this before trying to create your own trending hashtag, or campaign specific hashtag. Once you’ve built up enough engagement and following, then start experimenting with creating a following with your own.
